The Leadership Academy is a British Gymnastics initiative, designed for young people to help them gain the necessary skills required to develop as a leader within gymnastics.
The programme encourages the leaders to complete five different ‘topic’ areas:
My Learning: Leaders are tasked with completing a number of different courses, both generic and sport specific.
My Development: Leaders are tasked with identifying a mentor and learning from working alongside them.
My Volunteering: Leaders are tasked with volunteering their time at events, and at meetings locally, regionally and nationally.
My Future: Leaders are tasked with producing a development plan and completing their goals that they have set with their mentor.
My Projects: Leaders are tasked with identifying their needs, and running a project which benefits them/their club.
The Young Leader programme introduces individuals to the various roles and opportunities within gymnastics. The academy aims to identify each individual’s strengths and hopes to build on enthusiasm for the sport by enabling the young person to develop within the area of the sport they enjoy. They will complete courses, socialise, create and run projects and develop their leadership skills alongside many other personal skills. There will be rewards given at various stages of the programme which will encourage young leaders to continue to participate.
The programme is structured yet flexible and can be adapted to suit the needs of individuals and environments.
Gymnasts from the age of 11 can participate. If you would like to get involved, then please email anna@www.rugbygymnasticsclub.co.uk
